Cisco IOS Configuration Generator
Generate production-grade Cisco IOS commands in NetCalc Pro: interfaces, 802.1Q dot1Q sub-interfaces, VLANs, trunks, OSPF/RIP/EIGRP, DHCP, ACLs, and NAT.
From Addressing Plan to Live CLI Commands
In networking lab environments such as Cisco Packet Tracer, GNS3, or hands-on CCNA exam simulations, manually typing dozens of configuration commands across multiple routers and switches often leads to typos, missing directives (such as forgetting no shutdown), or miscalculated wildcard masks.
NetCalc Pro includes an integrated Cisco IOS configuration engine. Commands are generated according to official Cisco best practices and formatted with comments explaining each configuration block.
The output respects the natural dependency hierarchy of Cisco IOS:
- VLANs are declared in the switch database before being assigned to access ports.
- Interfaces are addressed and brought up (
no shutdown) before DHCP or NAT services reference them. - Access Control Lists (ACLs) are written before being bound to interfaces or NAT translation rules.
Supported Configuration Modules
1. Physical Interfaces and Sub-Interfaces (Router-on-a-Stick)
- Port Support:
GigabitEthernet,FastEthernet,Ethernet, andSerial. - Automatic Link Activation: automatically adds
no shutdownto every configured port (since Cisco router interfaces are administratively down by default). - Inter-VLAN Routing: provisions virtual sub-interfaces (e.g.,
GigabitEthernet0/0/0.10) with standard IEEE 802.1Q encapsulation (encapsulation dot1Q 10) before IP address binding. - Interface Descriptions: assigns clear
descriptiontags linking each port to its respective subnet name.
2. Switch VLANs and 802.1Q Trunking
- VLAN Creation: establishes VLAN entries with IDs and descriptive names (
vlan 10,name Engineering). - Access Ports: configures end-user edge ports (
switchport mode access, switchport access vlan 10). - Trunk Ports: configures backbone uplinks connecting switches together or routing to the router (
switchport mode trunk, switchport trunk allowed vlan ...).
3. Static and Default Routing
- Static Routes: calculates precise syntax for destination networks, masks, and next-hop router IPs:
ip route 10.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 192.168.1.2
- Default Route / Gateway of Last Resort: generates default gateway routes directing internet-bound traffic to your ISP:
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 203.0.113.1
4. Dynamic Routing Protocols
- OSPF (Open Shortest Path First):
- Generates
router ospf <process_id>. - Calculates exact inverse wildcard masks for
network <ip> <wildcard> area <area_id>commands. - Generates
passive-interface <interface>directives to suppress OSPF hello broadcasting on user-facing LAN segments.
- Generates
- RIPv2:
router rip,version 2,no auto-summary, and network statements. - EIGRP:
router eigrp <as_number>,no auto-summary, and wildcard network commands.
5. Local DHCP Server Pools
- Address Exclusions: generates
ip dhcp excluded-address <start_ip> <end_ip>before the pool definition to protect default gateways, DNS servers, and printers. - Pool Definitions: configures
ip dhcp pool <name>,network <ip> <mask>,default-router <gateway_ip>, anddns-server <dns_ip>.
6. Access Control Lists (ACL)
- Standard ACLs (1–99 / 1300–1999): filters traffic based on source IP address and wildcard.
- Extended ACLs (100–199 / 2000–2699): granular filtering by protocol (IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP), destination port numbers (HTTP 80, HTTPS 443, SSH 22, DNS 53), and target subnets.
- Interface Binding: binds filters using
ip access-group <id> in/out.
7. Network Address Translation (NAT / PAT Overload)
- Identifies internal interfaces (
ip nat inside) and WAN edge ports (ip nat outside). - Generates dynamic Port Address Translation (PAT) overloading a single public ISP interface:
ip nat inside source list 1 interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0 overload
- Supports static one-to-one port forwarding (
ip nat inside source static ...).
8. Basic System Hardening
enable secret <password>for strong MD5/SHA-256 privileged EXEC password encryption.service password-encryptionto obfuscate plaintext passwords in the configuration file.banner motd #...#for legal unauthorized-access warning banners.- Line configuration for console and VTY (
line console 0,line vty 0 4withlogin local,transport input ssh).
One-Click Copy & Export
Every generated device configuration includes an immediate Copy Cisco Configuration button (keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧C on macOS). The script can be pasted directly into Cisco Packet Tracer’s CLI tab or an SSH terminal window.
